The Geelong Cricket Club offers and impressive array of facilities for players, members and spectators at our Kardinia Park home.
The Club prides itself on making the grounds, training centre and clubroom amenities available to the Geelong and Barwon region cricket fraternity. The amenities are used for a varied range of activities from Cricket Victoria pathway matches to International Women’s and disability cricket matches.
The facilities are regularly made available to the Geelong Cricket Association (grand finals and T20 matches), Premier Cricket Womens’ competitions and representative matches, Disability competitions, Veterans and Masters cricket, and is the recognized home of junior pathways in the Barwon region both male and female. The club facilities also form the ‘schoolroom’ back drop for the SEDA (Sports Education & Development Australia) group of students who spend their year 10 and 11 school days learning sports development in hands-on onsite education.

Playing grounds
The GCC boasts two quality playing fields, the purpose built Geelong Cricket Ground and the nearby West Kardinia Oval. Both surfaces are summer grassed in drought resistant Santa Anna couch and are renowned throughout the cricket fraternity as equal to the best in the state. The grounds are maintained by curators of the City of Greater Geelong.
Clubrooms
The clubrooms are part of the Ford Stand complex at Kardinia Park and comprise change rooms downstairs and social rooms upstairs (the Bruce Moore Room). These facilities were constructed in 1995 after a joint agreement between the Geelong Football Club, Geelong City Council and named in honour of Geelong Cricket Club (sub district) administrator Bruce Moore.
The rooms were opened in January 1996 and upstairs feature a 100 seat function and social area which is served by a commercial kitchen and fully licensed bar. Members and guests can enjoy the best views of matches in air conditioned comfort with the Geelong Cricket Ground to the west and Kardinia Park (Skilled Stadium) to the east.
The Bruce Moore Room is accompanied by a scorer’s room and office as seen on the right of the picture.
The Bob Merriman Stand
Spectators can also enjoy matches on the Geelong Cricket Ground from the comfortable viewing area in the purpose built stand named in honour of club patron Bob Merriman. The stand features an 88 seating capacity and sits directly outside the Bruce Moore Room as an ideal viewing place for members, guests and spectators.
Philip Marshall Players’ Stand
On match days players from both sides enjoy the sun shaded player stand constructed in 2005 and named after club legend Philip Marshall. The concrete seating is adorned with comfortable cushions on match day and UV ray protection is provided by the overhead shade sail. This purpose built player facility is undoubtedly the best of its kind in Premier and local cricket.
Sightcreens
The permanent sightscreen at the northern or city end of the Geelong Cricket Ground is a major feature of the playing amenities. Covering the whole centre wicket table the movable screens offer batsmen the perfect seeing backdrop in both one day and two day formats. The southern end of the ground is serviced by the more traditional non-permanent sightscreen.
Scoreboard
The new season of 2011/12 will see the 15 year old scoreboard replaced by a state of the art LED full screen. This major club replacement project will place the club at the forefront of Premier Cricket. The scoreboard will feature live streaming and advertising capabilities seen at major sporting venues worldwide, as well as the most up to date cricket scoring programs to provide players and spectators with all the match day information they require to enjoy their day at the cricket.
David Kelly Training Centre
The GCC boasts a state of the art cricket training facility named after club doyen David Kelly. The Training Centre is a $600,000 project built to international specifications to support club training as well as state and international matches on Skilled Stadium. Opened in January 2007, the Centre’s full lighting enables late evening training on the turf and hard wicket surfaces. The David Kelly Training Centre is managed by the GCC.
Support services
The playing amenities are supported and serviced by the quality integrated watering systems throughout Kardinia Park. The two ovals are watered with recycled treated water from the Kardinia Park Aquatic Centre pools and local residential run off water stored massive underground tanks at the southern end of the Park. The David Kelly Training Centre water is from the 130,000 litre Rhino Tank, located near the club equipment shed, which stores harvested water from the Ford Stand roof.
The Club amenities also include the equipment shed at the back of the Ford Stand which supports the quality training and playing conditions.
