Line and Length – A complete history of the Geelong Cricket Club

As we celebrate our 30th season in Victoria’s Premier Cricket competition, it gives me immense pleasure to announce the launch of a book that intricately weaves the history of our great club, a journey that surprisingly dates back to the 1840s, much earlier than our first Premier Cricket match in 1993.
Esteemed historians from Deakin University, Tony Joel and Mathew Turner, have meticulously unearthed our club’s rich legacy. This narrative isn’t just about cricket; it encapsulates the spirit of our town and region, chronicling the evolution of what began as the Corio Cricket Club in the mid-1800s to today’s Geelong Cricket Club. Our story includes significant milestones like the historic amalgamation with the Geelong Football Club in 1884 and our eventual ascension to Premier Cricket in the 1993-94 season.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Tony and Mathew for transforming “Line & Length” into a compelling saga that transcends the boundaries of sports history. Additionally, I would like to acknowledge Peter and Bill Kurul (Kardinia Café), Glyn Harvey, the Ronna Moore Family, Bob Spurling, Robert Costa, Geoff Oliver, and Robert Riordan, along with those whose firsthand accounts add depth and personal touch to our story.
The book will be available at the end of January, with pre-orders now open at www.slatterymedia.com for $60 plus $20 postage and handling.
We look forward to your continued support and enthusiasm as we cherish and share our remarkable history.
